The best time to take Senior pictures, as family keepsakes or for your High School Yearbook, is typically during the late summer or autumn. Not all parents, at least with me, request to book their senior sessions during blooming days of fresh spring. The reason is, mostly, because they want to preserve their more mature faces towards late summer or fall, compared to the beginning of the year.
Weather considerations and comfort levels are relevant points to keep in mind, depending on personal styles, hobbies or seasonal goals when sessions take place outdoors.
As a Denver Family Photographer, these are the points highlighted to our grown-up kids who are ready and excited to jump into the world of adulthood:

Seasonal Considerations for Senior Pictures in Denver
Late Summer (August - September): This time is excellent for your Senior Photos. You can have the flexibility stay outside in your favorite outfits and capture the summer glow. The weather is usually warm. You can avoid the rush of school activities that start in the fall. Taking photos during this time allows you to check this task off your list before the school year gets hectic.
Fall (October - November): Autumn offers stunning backdrops with vibrant foliage, making it a high demand choice for senior photos. The Warm tones of fall can add depth and beauty to your images. The weather is typically mild, allowing for a variety of outfit choices, showing off a musical instrument or bonding with a pet.
Spring: Springtime is often overlooked by Seniors and more requested by families, maternity and children. This a gorgeous time for photos with blooming flowers and lush greenery. You can choose to take photos in the spring of your Junior Year or the spring of your Senior Year, just before graduation.
Winter: If you prefer a more dramatic and elegant look, winter can provide unique backdrops with soft lighting and potential chances of snowfall here in Colorado. This season is, definitely, best for those seek a cozy, holiday-themed vibe for their session.

Planning for Senior Photos
Keep in mind if you need your photos for graduation announcements or formal invitations, it's essential to plan ahead of time and get into your photographer's calendar soon, even if you are planning for "the next year", the time to jump into your photographer's schedule is now, due to many different reasons, including photographer's family schedule with school breaks and personal time off.
Timming for Graduation Announcements or Invitations
A recommended timeline for your Senior photos and party supplies is:
6 to 3 months before graduation: Schedule and take your Senior Photos.
3 months before graduation: Select images and finalize edits.
3 to 2 months before graduation: Design and order printed invitation.
8 to 6 weeks before graduation: Mail invitations and make a chart to check mark all RSVPs.

Best Time of Day for Senior Pictures
It all depends on individual goals and favorite time of the day: early mornings or evenings.
In my case, I personally prefer to work around the golden hour, two hours before the sun sets. Between warmups, relaxing, connecting, exploring poses and enjoying the great outdoors, we get ready for the last hour when we get the glow of the real golden magical moments, that lasts just a fraction of our time.
Ultimately, the best time to take your Senior Photos is when it feels right for you. During our consultation time, I love to ask about what feels right for you as being the Senior, or for Moms, considering personal styles, aesthetics and it's very important that I can work around your schedule. Many teens have jobs nowadays, so working around their work schedule is very important aligned with day light, when sessions are held outdoors. We have a lot of flexibility in the studio because of the controlled environment, which works quite different than dealing with the outdoors.
Whether you choose spring, summer, fall or winter, make sure to plan ahead of time to capture this memorable milestone beautifully.
